イギリスの作曲家、パーセルにより作曲された歌劇「アーサー王」は、パーセルの数多くの作品の中でも、楽曲の美しさから特に親しまれています。
オリジナルは管弦楽で演奏されますが、１７楽曲を抜粋し、弦楽アンサンブルにしてみました。

序曲の他、15曲目の Fairest Isle (最も美しい島)、16曲目の Chaconna (シャコンヌ)、17曲目の Passacaille (パッサカリア) は特に有名で、単独の楽曲としてたびたび演奏されています。

演奏時間３８分。
演奏会のメイン・プログラムにも十分かと思います。
編成は、弦楽五重奏 ( 2Violin Viola Violoncello Contrabass) です。

The opera "King Arthur", composed by the English composer Purcell, is especially popular for the beauty of the music among many of Purcell's works.
The original is played in orchestra, but I extracted 17 songs and made it into a string ensemble.

In addition to the overtures, the 15th Fairest Isle, the 16th Chaconna, and the 17th Passacaille are particularly famous and are often performed as solo songs.
